An Ornata Cross

Here’s a rather lovely and sinister looking Sarracenia flava var. ornata cross that was done by none other than my Sarracenia-bro-dude, Mike Wang. I like how the pitcher tube is heavily brushed in a rich red. The dark network of veins run up through the hood accented by the gold backdrop on the lid adds a nice touch to this pitcher. Awesome work, Mike!

  1. MUST TO HAVE IT!!!

Very impressive plants Rob. And my compliments to Mike on making the cross

  2. Jaw on the floor! I have clone A but I think I’ll have to get this stunner too.

I could just imagine this crossed with a leucophylla, or maybe something even darker, like “Prince of Darkness.” Oh, the colors that would show…..

  4. Rob it’s a beautiful plant, but do you feel these colors are greenhouse induced aka artificial suntan? it would be interesting to see one of these grown outside in natural conditions to document the intensity of coloration/veining against those grown under greenhouse cover.

  5. Ok…just found one being grown outdoors and they really are that colorful, although not quite so much as yours. Do you know if the ornata used in this cross was the Gulf Coast, FL form?

  6. Phil,
Here’s a sibling to Rob’s plant-they can definitely produce amazing colors outdoors: http://sarracenia.proboards.com/thread/358/flava-ornata-amazing-man-clone The flava ornata parent plant is the gulf coast, FL clone from Phil Sheridan. With Rob’s particular clone, as you pointed out, there seems to be only a slight “artificial suntan.” Most of that color can be achieved outdoors.

  7. OFF THE CHIZZAIN! Bro, is that even a flava? :) I have a small division of this beaut from Wes B that is establishing itself well this season – looking forward to seeing it fully colored next season. And thanks for the back story Mike. So many money clones came out of that cross seems like.

  8. wouah fabulous !! I love it great job

  9. Yes, I just got one of these from mike yesterday. I cant wait for it to settle in
