Hummingbird

A few days ago as I was working in the greenhouse, I had a visitor drop by! A hummingbird comes by every now and then and keeps me company. I’m glad that I actually had my camera on me to take a few frames of my esteemed guest. Here it is, sipping nectar from the last remaining Sarracenia leucophylla pitchers of the season.

Someone was just asking me the other day if hummingbirds ever drank from the pitchers! Now I can tell them for sure!

  3. Nice shots Rob! During the summer hummingbirds frequent lots of flowers around my plants, but not the pitchers (that I’ve seen anyway!) Does this guy sip from the pitchers during the summer, or is he visiting the leucs because they’re the only game in town during the winter?

    • Hey Calen! It was a bit funny seeing it at this time of year. I usually see hummingbirds during growing season and they don’t limit themselves to just the leucos. I’ve seen them going from pitcher to pitcher (on both various hybrid and species.) The leucos right now are pretty much the only thing in town. There’s a couple other pitchers of other plants hanging around still, but this humming bird was concentrating on the leucos for this visit!

  4. Amazing photos! I don`t think I will ever see thiis happening here in England (UK) !!
