Sarracenia ‘Abandoned Hope’ – With a hopeful flower bud.
Busy day today in the greenhouse. I’m still doing a lot of repotting. HELLA repotting. Couldn’t help but take a quick snapshot of S. ‘Abandoned Hope’ as I was getting ready to repot it. Just pulled it out of the pot and started to take some of the old media off… I fear that my repotting is starting to run a little behind as a lot of the plants are throwin’ up buds already. I am tryin’ to get to them all before they really start to explode into growth.
I have some high hopes for that bud and the hybrids that could possibly come from it! I’m quite hopeful for some interesting stuff, that’s for sure.
By the way — yes, I am wearing some disposable nitrile gloves. It is very true that I do like to get duh-duh-duh-DIRTY – but it is also very important to have good hygiene while working with potting media. It’s no fun to get stuff like this. OK, so I don’t always wear gloves but am always sure to wash hands after working. I’m also careful to address any cuts/wounds that happen while working with plants/media.

Hehehe, i got a wart that came up on a small cut after i was repotting. So yeah, gloves are a good idea!
Can’t believe i still don’t have and buds tho’!
What you planning on crossing it with?
Dan
Hey Dan, Not sure yet! I’ll guess I’ll wait and see what is available at the time… which should be a lot of stuff!
Great choice with those nitrile gloves! They will give you the best protection available without going overboard. Have you tried using an alcohol hand wash after you have de-gloved and done the standard wash with soap and water? Some soil will always get under gloves during repotting, regardless of how careful you are. Soap will help, but alcohol is just the thing for nuking any stubborn microbes that survive in the grooves and ridges of your hands and fingers. Get one with added moisturiser, as you don’t want to nuke your skin.
Hi there! Yep, I love these gloves – they are pretty inexpensive as well as tear resistant. Latex tends to tear pretty easy. I’ve been doing just the standard soap and water, but I figure I might as well bring some hand sanitizer to the greenhouse as well! Thanks for stopping by the blog!
Love what you’re doin’ down under, keep it up!!
