Happy (belated) Summer Solstice! YES!
To kick off the summer, here’s a few random photos of some seedlings. Most are 1-3 years old. I snapped these photos during the summer solstice late afternoon. Just a few things here and there, hope you enjoy them. By the way, I’ve noted who the cross was done by for proper credit down below. Where blank, it was yours truly
.
Not much else to say here except, Happy Summer! Enjoy the sun! (…And Sarracenias!)

Interesting story behind this one above. Read up on it here . Special props to fellow Sarracenia ghetto dude, Mike Wang. (Thanks again bro for letting me use it that one year!)

Amazing hybrids *_*
Thanks Yuri! You have some amazing plants too!
May I ask what your secret is to get your seedlings to grow so fast. I have some leah wilkerson op and leah wilkerson x adrian slack and they are taking for ever as they are 3 yrs old and still about 1-2 inch pitchers. Anyways keep up the awesome growing. Enjoy this blog alot.
Hi Chad! Thank you for the kind words. I guess a lot of it is genetics. Not all the seedlings I have are quick to grow, and some are indeed runts with their siblings 2 -3 times their size. A lot of it could have to do with my climate and conditions too. How much light do you give your plants? Here’s a quick link I pulled online, courtesy of the International Carnivorous Plant Society forum:

love the color on the courtii x slack
Thanks Matt! We’ll see what the other seedlings do. These babies are just starting to show some definitive characteristics. Looking forward to what they will do next!
There are some truly outstanding cultivars here. Especially fond of the courtii X ‘Adrian Slack’. Seeing these makes me very glad I purchased ‘Adrian Slack’ for breeding!
Thanks for sharing these awesome photos.
Paul
Hi Paul, Thank you! Those are two different courtii x ‘Adrian Slack’ seedlings. I have a few other ‘Adrian Slack’ crosses that are still doing some growing up, but I’ll post about them sooner or later. I’m excited for you! You are doing phenomenal, and I do mean PHENOMENAL work with your rose hybrids. I am looking forward to the Sarracenia hybrids you will get! I am getting some variation in the ‘Adrian Slack’ hybrids, but quite a bit of them are coming up with that nice white “flavor” to the pitcher. It doesn’t carry on every single seedling. But hey, that’s genetics, right?
Great seedlings and great pics as always. Some interesting genetics there.
Thanks Chris! Same can be said about your plants and collection too. You have some interesting stuff as well! Maybe you should start a blog too!
Initially I was giving them 16 hrs of light indoors under flourescents until about april them moved them outdoors. Living in Iowa I dont get as long of a growing season. Regardless you collection is awesome. Hopefully I can have a collection that large however in my climate that would be difficult without a greenhouse.
Thanks Chad! When growing from seed the collection grows exponentially. If you do decide to go the greenhouse route, be sure to get double or triple what you think you will need – the space fills up *very* fast!
Cool crop! The Kilimanjaro cross is showing really interesting, intense patterning. The white spots from the S. minor on the tube are extra-nice, and if the plants gets even dark later in the season the contrast should be even more amazing! Happy summertime.
James! Hey there! Thanks so much for your kind comments! How is your crop doing? How are you?! There’s quite a few more seedlings to be photographed on this end, it certainly is turning out to be a nice (although *late*) summer indeed. I’m looking forward to the crosses you’ve done. Hope you are well!
