{"id":2202,"date":"2012-04-21T23:29:04","date_gmt":"2012-04-22T06:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thepitcherplantproject.com\/blog\/?p=2202"},"modified":"2016-07-30T23:34:51","modified_gmt":"2016-07-31T06:34:51","slug":"far-out-flora-thank-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thepitcherplantproject.com\/archive\/2012\/04\/far-out-flora-thank-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Far Out Flora, Thank You."},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last weekend I got a chance to stop by Meg and Matti&#8217;s &#8211; \u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.faroutflora.com\/2012\/03\/31\/good-bye-california-hello-wisconsin\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gawrsh durn it, I miss y&#8217;all!<\/a>)\u00a0and picked up some rad cuttings at their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faroutflora.com\/2012\/04\/10\/succulent-sale-o-rama-saturday\/\" target=\"_blank\">going away plant sale<\/a>. \u00a0I am going to pot up these plants and have a shrine dedicated to Far Out Flora. \u00a0And for you readers out there that\u00a0haven&#8217;t immersed yourselves in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faroutflora.com\" target=\"_blank\">Far Out Flora<\/a>\u00a0awesomeness, it would behoove you to do so. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faroutflora.com\" target=\"_blank\">Right now<\/a>. Go check it. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faroutflora.com\" target=\"_blank\">Now<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"text-align: center;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5333\/6935206064_896f1fac44.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><em style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><br \/>\nSucculent cuttings from Far Out Flora!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">See, my garden is a living and breathing repository where life&#8217;s events are recorded. \u00a0Sarracenias and carnivores are at the heart of this, but I grow a few other things too. \u00a0I&#8217;ve said before that each stem, each petal, and each leaf blade is a poem waiting to be discovered. One just has to watch and listen. My garden is my journal &#8211; the collection of my memories that is open and read by all. Each plant is an icon of an event: they are the witnesses, they are the scribes, and they are the story tellers. I am honored to have a few plants in my garden from Meg and Matti.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Check out a few shots of Meg and Matti&#8217;s garden deconstruction and transplant preparation in the slideshow below. I am familiar with <a href=\"http:\/\/thepitcherplantproject.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/06\/move-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\">garden tear downs<\/a> and it&#8217;s never an easy task. But&#8230; packing plants up and road tripping them from the Bay to WI? I was honored to have met the awesome Johanna during the FOF sale. And dude, I seriously love Matti&#8217;s shirt. &#8220;HUG.&#8221; Kinda makes me want to indulge in this\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-RTywKVcLRI\" target=\"_blank\">hugging awesomeness<\/a>. ( &lt;-Funny video.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">I know this post is a little bit off the carnivorous path.\u00a0\u00a0I wanted to thank Meg and Matti for their inspiration. See, without Far Out Flora, there really wouldn&#8217;t be the awesome inspiration for The Pitcher Plant Project. \u00a0It was the first plant blog I stumbled across that really got me going.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My blog started when my rad wife, Dahlia, goes &#8220;You should start a blog about your carnivores.&#8221; I thought she was nuts. \u00a0So I say,&#8221;What? Really? Plant blog? A carnivorous Sarraceniaphile plant blog? \u00a0Eh, that&#8217;s just dorky.&#8221; Forreals, I was totally clueless. That ish just sounds so plant-nerdy straight up, right? Anyway, wifey knows best and I&#8217;m thankful for her encouragement to get me photographing and writing about them.\u00a0Sooooooo, I go online and \u00a0Google &#8220;Bay Area Plant Blog&#8221; &#8211; and lo and behold, I clicked on Far out Flora. \u00a0&#8220;Ohh Em Gee. Damn, this was aweseome!&#8221;\u00a0One thing lead to another. \u00a0I was so enamored by their passion of plant radness that it prodded me to share my own addiction with you all. \u00a0 And from there I began to connect with all sorts of freakishly awesome folks who share the same plant-dorkiness I do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I ran into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faroutflora.com\/2010\/07\/28\/giant-gunnera\/\" target=\"_blank\">this post<\/a>\u00a0on Gunnera soon after I started to follow Far out Flora. \u00a0And that eventually lead to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faroutflora.com\/2010\/08\/24\/gunnera-goodness\/\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>. (And YES, Matti&#8217;s hair did amaze me.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5315\/6944947884_bd1d843ddc.jpg\" alt=\"FOF Gunnera\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Gunnera. (Thank you Ingrid for taking the photo! \ud83d\ude42 )<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Through writing and sharing my passion with Sarracenias and carnivores on this blog, I began to connect with so many wonderful people, and fellow plant addicts from all over the world, as well as locally. \u00a0(You know who you are.) Oh the memories &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/thepitcherplantproject.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/26\/bapp-plantgasm-gardens\/\" target=\"_blank\">BAPP 1<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/thepitcherplantproject.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/02\/bapp-ii-the-fountain-of-sarrs\/\" target=\"_blank\">BAPP 2<\/a>, the grand <a href=\"http:\/\/thepitcherplantproject.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/28\/bapp-iii-far-out-flora-gardens\/\" target=\"_blank\">BAPP 3<\/a> hosted by Meg and Matti!
