(Chris, THANKS! You made my day yesterday!) For those of you who don&#8217;t know, Chris has this awesome super power of growing Sarracenia seedlings into gigantor type status rather quickly. I don&#8217;t know where he gets it&#8230; but I need me some o&#8217; that!<\/p>\n<p>There was a nice surprise that showed up for me yesterday via FedEx.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3523\/5692625370_34548d0799.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><br \/>\n[Uh, who &#8230; me?]<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know what Chris is talking about on the box, I just kinda stick plants in the durt and they do their own thing. (Chris: As far as the &#8220;photographer extraordinaire&#8221; thing&#8230; I just push a button man. That&#8217;s all I do. HA!)\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3515\/5692625698_75f04d234d.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><br \/>\n[Chris has the most awesome giant zip lock bags&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>So, opening it up I find this giant sized zip lock bag, and it&#8217;s filled with the goodness of\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpphotofinder.com\/sarracenia-purpurea-subsp-venosa-var-burkii-f-luteola-2622.html\" target=\"blank\">Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa v. burkii f. luteola<\/a>! (An anthocyanin free clone of S. purpurea ssp. venosa v. burkii, or S. rosea as some folks call it.) More information about the plant can be also found here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnivorousplants.org\/cpn\/samples\/Tax271Spurpburk.htm\" target=\"blank\">http:\/\/www.carnivorousplants.org\/cpn\/samples\/Tax271Spurpburk.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chris had crossed two of his S. purpurea ssp. venosa v. burkii f. luteola clones, resulting in many offspring. Two of which, are below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3407\/5692626186_741b4cfaa7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><br \/>\n[S. purpurea ssp. venosa v. burkii f. luteola &#8211; C. Gussman, May 2011 &#8211; FRESH outta the box!]<\/p>\n<p>2 different clones. Both are from the same seed pod, but what a difference indeed! Here&#8217;s one seedling:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3042\/5692626594_f62b10c49a_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/><br \/>\n[S. purpurea ssp. venosa v. burkii f. luteola &#8211; C. Gussman, May 2011]<\/p>\n<p>The above photo is what I would expect with this cross, a more typical form\/shape of luteola.\u00a0 Now, just for illustrative purposes, below is a photo of one of my other luteola plants, so you get the idea of a general pitcher shape:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4136\/4773219661_83b975d6d6_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"600\" \/><br \/>\n[S. purpurea ssp. venosa v. burkii f. luteola &#8211; Rob Co&#8217;s, April 2010]<\/p>\n<p>However, below is the <em>other <\/em>seedling that resulted from the cross Chris did &#8212; and DUDE,\u00a0 it is just something else! He called it &#8220;Odd&#8221;&#8230; I&#8217;ll just stick it with that, for now, until he thinks of a better name for it!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3443\/5692627174_b115aaee71.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><br \/>\n[S. purpurea ssp. venosa v. burkii f. luteola &#8220;Odd Clone&#8221;- C. Gussman, May 2011]<\/p>\n<p>At a young age, I really am impressed by this clone.\u00a0 What strikes me about this is the upright and triangular ruffled hood.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also not as &#8220;tubby&#8221; as I would expect.\u00a0 Again, it&#8217;s young so features can change and develop as it ages.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a couple more shots of this plant&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3356\/5692057341_fa05de9f42_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/><br \/>\n[S. purpurea ssp. venosa v. burkii f. luteola &#8220;Odd Clone&#8221;- C.
